Epiphany House Blessings
Epiphany, celebrated each year on January 6th. A long-standing tradition associated with Epiphany is "chalking the door," a blessing that marks the celebration with sacred signs and symbols. This act invites God's blessing upon our homes, setting them apart as places of Christian hospitality, peace, and healing.
Using blessed chalk, the priest or the head of the house inscribe their doorposts with the new year and the letters C+M+B. For example, in 2026, the inscription would read 20+C+M+B+26.
The letters C+M+B have dual meanings: they represent the Latin phrase Christus Mansionem Benedicat (“May Christ bless this house”) and the traditional names of the Magi—Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar—who honored the Christ child.
